Am reading Rmasey Campbell at the moment. He reminds me of Lovecraft, but at least he admits to the influence. This was evident in the first line of his opening story "The Church in High Street":
" If I had not been a victim of circumstances, I would never have gone to ancient Temphill."
Numerous unnameable horrors ensue, and the narrator passes out, as if required of all good HPL characters. The myriad inbred looking freaks which populate places like Innsmouth and Temphill remind me of Slough, slightly, or maybe Chard.
