From the BBC:
Puppy thrown at German biker gang

Page last updated at 16:23 GMT, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 17:23 UK

A German student "mooned" a group of Hell's Angels and hurled a puppy at them before escaping on a stolen bulldozer, police have said.

The man drove up to a Hell's Angels clubhouse near Munich, wearing only a pair of shorts and carrying a puppy.

He dropped his shorts and threw the dog, escaping on a bulldozer from a nearby building site.

He was arrested later at home by police. The 26-year-old is said to have stopped taking depression medication.

After making his getaway on the bulldozer, he had driven so slowly that a 5km tailback built up behind him on the motorway.

After driving about 1km, he had abandoned the bulldozer in the middle of the motorway, near Allershausen. He continued his journey by hitchhiking.

"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hell's Angels is currently unclear," a police spokesman said.

The puppy is now being cared for in an animal shelter.

Read all about it here.

Reading the comments was interesting, as they seemed to have very little to do with the article itself.

Not that I care particularly for Boyzone, but I do care that mindless cretins at the "Daily (Hate)Mail" think it's okay to blame a dead man's  lifestyle instead of an underlying health problem.  Charlie Brooker, as usual, vents some bile on this newspaper perfectly:

"A horrid little window into an awesome universe of pure blockheaded spite. Spiralling galaxies of ignorance roll majestically against a backdrop of what looks like dark prejudice, dotted hither and thither with winking stars of snide innuendo."

If you don't know what I'm talking about, look here at the details, then here are the Guardian coverage on the Mail article here.

A dear friend of mine will be getting married to his boyfriend next year and I sincerely hope that he never has to deal with such ridiculous ignorance.

So, first of all...

A few months ago I recall MSN doing this whole thing about healthy foods - you know, the "10 super foods" crap they always foist on you on the main page.  Well, apparently all those edamame you've been chomping down on are bad for you, and the one glass of wine a day you have (because "it's good for you") is now evil.   Well, having just finished a big bowl of SHOCK carbohydrates (that's whole wheat penne FYI), I shall surely develop some sort of evil bum disease because I've been ingesting food.  Sometimes I think I only read these things to make myself angry.

In other, much more newsworthy, areas.  Here are some nice articles from The Observer:

An interview with Sarah Waters

Robert McCrum tells the story of the writing of Orwell's "1984".

I'm still fuming about the bike incident earlier...
