Lists are fabulous things. Here's the films I need to go see:
Land of the Dead
Wallace and Gromit
Corpse Bride
Brothers Grimm
History of Violence
Anything else you recommend?
I saw "Nightwatch" last week. I'd seen a preview at FrightFest but didn't actually know much about it, apart from that it looked good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The SFX were excellent, though I dislike the fact that most reviews keep name-dropping "The Matrix", as I don't really think it was that derivative. Bearing in mind that no one seemed to know that the Russians could churn out a good SF thriller this is quite a stunner. I was also really impressed by the fairy-tale aspect of it with its metaphors for human morality and the choices people make which shape their lives. As this is also the first in a trilogy I'm looking forward to the sequels.
Our dog is going to be put down at some point this morning. Poor old Pip has got arthiritis, is suffering from stress, and has a rather nasty ulcer on his back leg from where he's been chewing himself. I'm not sure what exactly has happened for him to be put down so suddenly as my mum didn't go into details when she emailed me yesterday. Still, he's nearly 14 and has been very healthy and happy for most of his life. We didn't get on that well (would you feel much for a dog which put you in hospital and gave you lovely facial scars for the rest of your life?) but I've been feeling sorry for him the last few months because he just seems so unhappy. Do you have to cremate dogs?
I don't think there'll be another dog. My parents don't really have the energy for another puppy, and the poor thing would be beaten to death by all the cats (if they didn't leave home in protest).
One more list, what to read next:
To Charles Fort With Love - Caitlin R Kiernan
Looking for Jake - China Mieville
Dreams in the Witchhouse - H P Lovecraft
Dark Water - Koji Suzuki
Mammoth Book of Haunted House Stories
Land of the Dead
Wallace and Gromit
Corpse Bride
Brothers Grimm
History of Violence
