I wrote this last Thursday morning in a lovely quiet coffee shop over a mug of hot chocolate. Due to my being totally crap I have neglected to actually type it up yet, so here it is in raw form:

" It's difficult to maintain an air of impartiality when confronted by a band you have spent the best part of your rock and roll life trying to get tickets to see live. The level of excitement felt didn't quite match the youthful vigor of gig going seven years ago, but as the air of expectation rose palpably within the Brixton Academy it became difficult not to start grinning like a loon at the approaching spectacle.

The gradually increasing guitar crunch of 'Pinion' provided a fitting introduction to match the tension in the air as Nine Inch Nails took to the stage, drowned out by a crowd roar as Trent Reznor clasped the microphone between his hands in his familiar stage stance. 'Wish' and 'Sin' followed. Dance floor track 'Only' was the first song to air from 'With Teeth' and seemed to go down as well with the crowd as well as any of the classic tracks which followed: 'March of the Pigs' and 'Closer'. However, only three tracks in total were played from the new album, "Only' being joined by "The Hand That Feeds" and the sinisterly groovy 'With Teeth', shouted by Reznor with a force which has not been lessened by his new comparative sobriety.

'Hurt' was as hauntingly powerful as ever, complimented by the enthusiastic crowd cacophony singing along. A rare treat was seen in 'Dead Souls' which provided an interesting interlude between classic NIN sounding songs. The gig ended with with crowd-pleaser 'Head Like A Hole', an exuberant performance which pounded along at such a pace that it seemed to have finished as soon as it had begun.

And then they were gone, rather tantalizingly without an encore. One suspects this won't be the last time we'll see NIN on British shores..."
