"Well, Devils Rejects!
Immediately 70's in style and feeling, this film definitely starts just a couple of years after House of 1000 Corpses left off. However, those wising to be re-introduced to the comic-like sideshow-esque characters in the first film, will be horrified to discover that Baby, Otis, and Spaulding have become hideously evil psychopaths. Their main intention seems to be in the humiliation and mental torture of others which results in an uncomfortable hotel room scene and a sorjourn in a strip bar.
However, the sense of humour prevalent in House of a Thousand Corpses returns with a vengeance, and there are some killer one liners. And just check out Captain Spaulding's new girlfriend! But those hoping for a glimpse of Dr Satan will be disappointed, and his absence from the film will be noted by hardcore Corpses fans.
It is easy to see that Rob Zombie is becoming a more proficient director, and stylistically, I much preferred this film to Corpses. Sheri Moon Zombie fans will be delighted to know that the camera loves her more than ever, and there is plenty of flesh for the more discerning Baby fan. The soundtrack (which was surprisingly free of Rob Zombie's own music) was also a killer and especially complemented the final Butch-Cassidy style scene perfectly.
Alan Jones, one of the curator's of the movie at last night's mini Fright Fest, promised a 'bumpy ride' of a film, and Devil's Rejects certainly delivered. He also said that it would be the best film you would see in a long time, and I'm quite inclined to agree. Released on 22nd July, looks like this summer is going to be filled with horror!"
