Froglike in Appearance
Mar. 14th, 2005 01:17 pmI met an author last week for a drink after work. He's written (so far) three novels which are being published by Bloodbinds, a new horror publisher. It was a very good evening. We talked about loads of stuff including horror (obviously)films, Lovecraft, occult bits. It was very nice to meet someone who's so up on their Lovecraft mythos, and who actually knows what you're going on about. A lot of the time my Lovecraft and occult ramblings fall on deaf ears, apart from Gid who is also a Lovecraft reader, so it was refreshing to meet someone else who knows what "batrachian" means. We discussed writing as well and I was telling Peter about my "Horror on West Cliff" piece, which he seemed keen to read. I'll have to start tidying it up tonight and redraft where necessary.
At the weekend I pootled about at the allotment, breaking in my new leopard print wellies; went to garden centres and popped back to Stoke Poges to have a good whinge about various recent work-based occurences which have done more than annoy me. In fact I was so angry on Friday I found it almost impossible to control my temper and nearly ended up in tears as a result. It was that or throwing stuff so self-control was probably the better option. However, the thought of putting knives in people's eyes is appealing at such times. I know I'm not the only one to have geuinely murderous thoughts either... I'm just not prepared to go to prison for killing someone.
Sunday I spent at the London Book Fair. What a waste of a day. So much more could have been achieved in a shorter time. It would have been interesting but for the company I was in. Got home at 8pm last night and had to wash-up before cooking dinner. NOT what I want to do when I have a headache and am starving hungry.
Letch is in York until tomorrow. It's quite nice having the house to myself, and I don't get woken up constantly by his snoring either. Maybe he should stay there a bit longer and I could get a few more nights of decent kip...
