Gigs 'n Stuff
Nov. 9th, 2004 01:54 pmWhat a shame that one can never be guaranteed a good gig for one's £4. Or even guarantee getting there. Someone had conveniently thrown themselves under a tube train on the line I needed to go on last night. Dammit, at least if I was going to kill myself I wouldn't do it in public. What an awful thing to witness too. I guess you must be cut in half if a tube hits you. Hmmm, anyway, enough musing on death...
The Archway is a rather typical venue really, bad sound, no tiles on the floor, no running water in the bathroom and no locks on the cubicles. The sound engineer could literally have been a monkey as I could have done a better job. Hydrous were merrily playing away when said monkey took it upon himself to start putting an echo on the vocals which sounded awful. Other than monkey-boy cocking things up the gig went well for Hydrous and I even spied people parting with cash for CDs.
The second band on were good-ish, though not really worth talking about. No, my derision is drawn to "Crimson Altar", and we all know where this one is going. Headed by a girl, who made it very obvious that she wasn't a man by saying: "I'm a girl" a lot, the band comprised a mish mash of bad musicians and geeky-goth boys wearing baseball caps. Creative force in the band was obviously said baseball-cap wearing goth boy in bad waistcoat as he seemed to satnd further forward on stage than the lead singer. One suspects he came up with first song "Vampire of Lust and Desire" whilst on an RPG bender. Three songs in I was about to take out my eyes if "bloooood on the haaawwwwwthorne!" was wailed any more.
Missed the last band as we left early and got caught for an hour and a half on the north circular. Joy...
