So I finished the first Anita Blake novel today and I'm not sure whether I like it or not.

It seemed a little too "bitty". Anita is assigned to find the vampire serial-killer by Nikolaos and then is repeatedly attacked by her. I understand of course that having Anita hunt the serial-killer is a convenient situation for Nikolaos who wants A. under her power anyway, but it just seemed to me that N's actions were never really explained to the extent at which I felt she was justified, unless you consider being a millennium-old vampire justification enough. Naw.

And then all of a sudden Nikoloas is dead and the book ends. For such a big build up I had expected something a little more involved and long-winded than a couple of stab wounds and then decapitation (...but that's still a good enough way to go I suppose).

I also felt that Anita's voice is overly stylised. The little quips and then the denials at the end started to grate upon me a bit. Naw.

Mind you, I'm still intending to read the other books in the series. For all it's flaws it is quite obviously the beginning of a series and will hopefully get better before it descends into LKH porn.

On other books, Gideon found me a first edition of "The Second Virago Book of Fairy Tales" edited by Angela Carter, and wrapped it up very nicely in his bookshop style, and sent it to me. It'll look very pretty on my bookshelf.

Hopefully I'll get my website sorted out tonight. I was updating it last night but my connection kept going and in the end my computer crashed so I gave up. New pictures of my kitties on there for anyone who's interested.
