I think the above was one of the highlights of yesterday's trip to the Reading Festival. We arrived later than anticipated and only got to see Mastodon's last song, which was good nonetheless. There's nothing like a hairy man growling on a Sunday morning. Next up were Killswitch Engage, who I've always been a little wary of, but having seen them live have since changed my opinion. After looking around for food, and queuing for at least 30 minutes in what seemed to be an every increasing puddle of piss, we went off to see the Dresden Dolls, but ran off to see Less Than Jake, who were one of the best bands of the day. Following that we caught fifteen minutes of Goldie Lookin' Chain, before running BACK to the main stage to see Slayer. They didn't play my favourite (Angel of Death) but they did play Dead Skin Mask, amongst others. Then we hung around a bit more, and almost slit our wrists whilst watching, or trying not to watch, My Chemical Romance, who sucked. You would have the thought the bottling they got before they came on would have been a hint, but no, they kept playing, whilst telling everyone that there was no reason to hurt or kill yourself. Helen and I agreed that there was a very good one which hadn't shut up for the past 45 minutes on the stage before us. Why didn't we go and do something else you ask? Why indeed. We were slightly merry and our feet hurt so we sat on the filthy ground instead. Anyway, Placebo were up next, and they weren't too bad at all. The reason I had gone though, was to see Pearl Jam, who were great. Evenflow was the best song of the day and even though my feet were killing me I managed to have a little bop.

Polly remarked to me earlier that she couldn't believe how different Stone Gossard looks. I think the same can be said for the rest of them, apart from Eddie Vedder, who merely seems to have "matured", rather than aged. I'm going to get my Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam albums out later to coo over their pretty girlish faces back in the early 1990s, and those rather lovely leggings, shorts and lumberjack shirt get ups they use to wear.

Most of all, I enjoyed yesterday because it reminded me why I use to go to so many gigs when I was younger. You know you've had a good time when you walk away from a stage muttering about how much you love metal.
