The wolves are running...
Last night I started watching "The Box of Delights", which I have clear memories of - mainly sitting at my grandparents' house watching the video when I was sick. I'd forgotten how good it was (despite the creaky SFX), though I always remembered it fondly. I'm going to watch an episode once a week until Xmas Eve I think. Seeing it has also put me in the mood for Susan Cooper's "The Dark is Rising", another wintery fantasy tale which is set in Taplow, Berkshire - not so very far away from Stoke Poges.
On the wintery theme I went to Yudanaka in the North of Nagano last weekend. The plan was to check out, and get into a bath with, the monkeys there, but we didn't get round to it, and events on Sunday put any stop to returning to the onsen. The trip up to the onsen was rather treacherous (especially when one stupidly wears trainers in the snow), but highly unusual in the peace and lack of people around:

However, when you get to the top you see this:

The adults aren't so cute, but the baby monkeys are super-kawaii especially when they're doing this:
